I'm a South Londoner now living in Sweden. I'm also a part-time DJ/ founder of Urbanlife Radio and co-founder of Scandinavian Soul. Music has always been my soundtrack to life and although I listen to everything, soul is always in my playlist.
Directly touching at my soul is the single - A Gospel by the Swedish band Twaine.
'A Gospel' was first released on the Japanese compilation album 'We -Songs of Hope-', and all royalties went directly to the people affected by the catastrophe in Fukushima, Japan, 2011. The single also features on their new album - A World in Change.
The charming video introduces us the smartly dressed, dreadlocked singer who sounds like a combination of James Brown and modern soul legend Charles Bradley.
The Norwegian singer, who we unbelievably once described as shy, takes centre stage and is utter captivating, confident and naked throughout the video for this dreamy single.
From Ankah to Quadron and from retro to future soul, enjoy a sample selection of sumptuous grooves, passionate voices and world-class musicianship in Soul from Scandinavia.
The Norwegian quartets exquisite, jazzy-soul tracks have impressed since their debut, and the first compilation of their music can now be found in a strikingly designed, 12-track album - A Million Things.
Inspired by the sounds of Bilal, Andersen Park, Frank Ocean, D'Angelo and Thundercat, Tears (To Water Her Roses) is a beautifully titled, lyrically engaging track. Deftly produced by Lush Reality, the tight soulful rhythm builds to a dynamic and passionate crescendo.
Released with the digital track is a creative music video, filmed and directed by band members Ölle Häggberg and August Campeotto. In the video hooded lead singer Bobby Bovell (who we discovered as a solo singer) meanders against the backdrop of Copenhagen's futuristic urban architecture.
The track introduces us to her organic sound as she makes her first official release for a global melomaniac* audience.
With her own music, and in her own words Limbo expresses Amanda's feeling of being unable to escape from the situation she's in.
Best known for a number of killer tracks such as; Follow Me, Running From Love, and his collaborations with Linn (Waiting for Spring), the hugely admired producer has returned with the soulful vocals of American singer, Coco Rouzier and worked his magic.
The result is stunning, sublime and mesmerising mellow. It's an immediately captivating sound that will transport you to a stylish bar with an ice-cold cocktail and thoughts of a lost love.
With a hint of humour, Bluff & Båg (basically, means - Bogus) is soul-ish in tone, laid back and smooth. We're stating the obvious but this Swedish sung track feels Swedish too, and we can imagine Swedes singing along with the catchy chorus.
Happy 5th Birthday to us!
Where did that time go?
To be honest, we lost track too. Guess we're having too much fun!
Yes, we're five years old! Wahooo! In March 2012 our website scandinaviansoul.com launched. The idea was to create a window and platform for soulful artists throughout Scandinavia, and looking back at all the stunning tracks we've been able to bring you we couldn't be happier.
