Soul kicking

The role of a music producer can be vast and varied and there is no denying they play a vital role in nearly every song you've ever enjoyed. Often overlooked the producer can be the engineer, beat maker and talent spotter.

One such producer is PEO, a 33 year-old beatmaker, producer and songwriter, who hails from Kristianstad in the southern part of Sweden. Having heard some of his songs such as 'Good Love / Impossible Love' featuring the Swedish singer Sofie, we decided to find out more.

Mary's Mine - A petite soul fighter

In 2007, Mary's Mine (Maria Friberg) put some demos on her Myspace page. Shortly after that she was contacted and signed up by the successful Sundae Soul Recordings record company, who released a vinyl version of her single Marvin. It sold out within three months. Now, with an excellent new single Another Day due out in May, we thought it was about time we found out more about this petite Swedish soul singer.

Quadron return with classic soul groover

For those who don’t already know, every Sunday I DJ for Urbanlife Radio under the name Mr.C. The show is a mix of Scandinavian Soul and Rare Groove. So, you can imagine my surprise – and delight – when I heard that Danish group Quadron is working with one of the icons of Rare Groove: 72-year-old American legend Leon Ware. The result is magic.

Billow - Mental Picture

Denmark seems to be producing a stream of soul talent, a prime example is newcomer Bashir Billow Khalid (BILLOW) who has exploded onto the Scandinavian soul music scene with a stunning debut recording coupled with a cool video. The single, 'Mental Picture', does everything right, musically as well as visually. Could this be the first summer hit of 2012?

Klara-Kazmi-NICEDuring an English lesson at school, I remember my teacher telling us to avoid using the word ‘nice’, as there was a multitude of other adjectives to use instead. Well, she had better have her red pen handy, as I’m about to use it a lot!

Sunday (8th April 2012) saw the release of Swedish singer Klara Kazmi's new single – NICE, and it’s as good as the title says!
