I'm a South Londoner now living in Sweden. I'm also a part-time DJ/ founder of Urbanlife Radio and co-founder of Scandinavian Soul. Music has always been my soundtrack to life and although I listen to everything, soul is always in my playlist.
For those who don’t already know, every Sunday I DJ for Urbanlife Radio under the name Mr.C. The show is a mix of Scandinavian Soul and Rare Groove. So, you can imagine my surprise – and delight – when I heard that Danish group Quadron is working with one of the icons of Rare Groove: 72-year-old American legend Leon Ware. The result is magic.
Denmark seems to be producing a stream of soul talent, a prime example is newcomer Bashir Billow Khalid (BILLOW) who has exploded onto the Scandinavian soul music scene with a stunning debut recording coupled with a cool video. The single, 'Mental Picture', does everything right, musically as well as visually. Could this be the first summer hit of 2012?
During an English lesson at school, I remember my teacher telling us to avoid using the word ‘nice’, as there was a multitude of other adjectives to use instead. Well, she had better have her red pen handy, as I’m about to use it a lot!
