OKAT releases her debut EP - Something Better

Written by

The Danish R&B/soul singer OKAT has released her debut EP - Something Better.

Okat-something-betterBehind OKAT is the deep and silky voice Katja de Neergaard from Copenhagen. The 25-year-old singer debut single ‘Forgive and Forget’ sets the tone as she borders between soul, R&B and hip-hop on this 5-track EP.

OKAT has made Something Better in cooperation with the Danish collective Stoned Academy and has five of their producers involved. Adam Kay, Bobotron, Sofa T, Jabar Ligla and Fou Fou, each produced and mixed a track.

"Something Better is the result of collaboration I began with Bobotron a little over a year ago” said Katja de Neergaard. “We recorded some stuff in the studio at the Candy Factory and he introduced me to the rest of Stoned Academy. It has all developed organically from there. Our background is in hip hop and soul, but the driving force has been a common creative desire to explore non-traditional genre conventions."

The result is honest, vulnerable and raw lyrics, drawing on personal experiences with love and tension between the sexes.
