Mikko Pettinen aims to bring soul and funk with a smile

Written by

Finnish singer/trumpeter Mikko Pettinen & Happy People release a funky new single/video Dance Away - out June 3rd, 2017.

Founded in Helsinki in 2013, Mikko Pettinen & Happy People have made it their mission to give listeners positive energy and spread the message of soul and funk music with a taste of jazz and pop.

The new single Dance Away is a follow-up to the live studio album - Nothing Can Stop My Spirit, released in September 2016.

The uplifting, uptempo funky track is exemplified by the energetic background singers whose spirit encourages you also to smile.

Composed and arranged by Mikko Pettinen and written by Happy People´s background singer Jonnu Heikkilä, Dance Away was inspired by Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson, Prince, Bruno Mars and Snarky Puppy.

  • Mikko Pettinen & Happy People: Nothing Can Stop My Spirit

After reviewing music from Finland over the years, I can conclude that Finnish soul artists always give 100%. There is no midpoint to aspire to. They’re passionate about music, so it’s all or nothing.

Finnish soul began with Quintessence, became established with Tuomo, and grew with Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators, Dolla Lova, Humus and The Napkins, to name but a few. All have all set the standard, and it’s a high one.

With a beautifully designed vinyl album, a CD and a live DVD (yes, a live DVD) to accompany his latest release, Nothing Can Stop My Spirit, it’s clear that Mikko Pettinen is another passionate Finnish music creator, too.
