Heartbeats - In conversation with Andy Collins

Written by

I'll never get used to being on the other side.

The interrogated instead of an interrogator.

Anyone would think I don't like being interviewed. I do, and in the capable hands of Fabian Hansen, it's also fun.

I just feel so awkward!

Sweedest mix of soul sung in Swedish

Written by

Regular visitors to our site may find many of the tracks we feature are sung in English though is not by intention. The Swedes, for example, have been devoted soul and style lovers for years and many excellent tracks are currently residing unloved in vinyl crates. And despite what non-Scandinavians may feel are 'incomprehensible lyrics,' native sung tracks from across the Nordics are just as accessible and enjoyable.

We've discovered a selection of 'old-skool' Swedish sung grooves on Mixcloud compiled by DJ Olof Karlstrand, ’Sweedest Sounds Vol. 24 - Soul På Svenska’, sprinkled with recognisable soul cover versions.

Who knows, by the end of the mix you may also say it's 'Bra.'

Orfium steps into the online music ring

Written by

I have to admit it. I love Soundcloud.

If you were to stop me on the train and I removed my headphones, it would usually reveal that I’m listening to a Soundcloud playlist (usually our own), a mix on Mixcloud, or a UK radio station such as, or

For a while, though, the spectre of survival has been hanging over Soundcloud, as it has sought the best avenues to monetise the platform. In an effort to challenge Spotify, it has finally launched a paid subscription service, SoundCloud Go. For $10, users get month’s worth of access a huge new library of music. Sounds reasonable, but sites such as are also growing in popularity.

Will a viable rival ever knock Soundcloud or even Spotify from their lofty perches?

Some of the Best and Worst SSoul cover art

Written by

These days, the music business is mainly about streaming so the cover art has been reduced to Hobbit-sized thumbnails. However, a decent album cover design still remains vital to the success of a new release, and a recent revival in vinyl should inspire a new future for this graphic design discipline.

For me, the cover art should entice you into this artist or band’s world. Sometimes, there doesn’t even need to be any personal connection to the music at all, but merely be visually stunning enough to investigate, listen or purchase.

Introducing Z.WOODS (SWE)

Written by

I wrote ‘Introducing z.woods’ in the title as I’ve only just discovered the Swedish LA based artist/producer, and I’ve a feeling you’ve not heard of him either.

Z.WOODS recently released his EP Heartbrak På Svenska (Heartbreak in Swedish), a 4 track EP oozing with R&B arrangements, and sung entirely in Swedish.
