MARJUT is a newly discovered artist, and the Helsinki-based singer-songwriter combines melodic pop with modern R&B on her new track ‘Highlight’.

The 25 track digital album sets the tone by opening with the superb Dolla Lova from Finland.

This was exactly how we first discovered the Finnish duo group Humus (Heikki/Tiia) in 2013 with the sensual video which features lead singer Tiia and her real-life partner in a soulful version of the ‘Whole Lotta love’ classic, originally sang by Led Zeppelin.
When Finnish band Quintessence released their album 'Talk Less Listen More' in 2002 it broke the borders of the often forgotten country Finland, and subsequently gave birth to Finnish soul. It awoke Soul connoisseurs and in its wake arose the Soul singer Tuomo, who continues to produce quality music although he's now moved away from his original soul sound.
However, it would take a further 12 years before the next generation of soul artists would decide to express themselves through soul music, and once again remind us that the 'finns' have got soul.
In the back streets of Helsinki, at a small venue called Semifinal, we were about to witness the trio of bands at the forefront of the rebirth.

“On Deck 2”, released on the BBE record label, contains a wealth of new material specifically submitted for this project which includes Rippy Austin’s ‘Fallen’, Stephanie Nicole’s spaced out funk ‘Diligence’, and we were particularity interested to find a horn driven and gorgeously sung serenade called “I Do (I Do)” by Finnish band Humus, whom we've been following closely.
