With heavy reggae undertones, Danish soul vixen Stine Kinck hits us with a harmony-fueled project of 11 tracks.

Stine first attracted my attention when I was out on the east coast of the USA. I was really knocked out by the stuff she was doing in collaboration with several New York musicians. Her amazingly confident, strong and sensual tones impelled me to find out more.

Stine’s decision to leave the states and return home to Denmark to work with homegrown musicians was the best thing ever - and it has led to this impressive full-length LP. The sound on the album is grown up, sexy, and has musical depth.

stine kinck-13792368-frntlTrack one, "Kom med mig", is a joyful, upbeat number with offbeat undertones. Afro-Percussion instruments blend well with a  rounded tonality that is unmistakably Danish. The deep horns and Stine’s vocal range get you instantly. The following song, "Boss", retains the same reggae backbeat vibe with some brilliant sampled patois at the beginning and end.

Tracks such as the bluesy "Når Jeg Kommer Hem" and "Mitt Liv" mesh modern soul with a throwback sensibility. Other urban influences are thrown in to smooth out the mix, like the closing notes of the final cut; the bhangra-Soul influenced "Nattens Eventyr", which is just Amazing!

This work of art gets 9 out of 10

Rules are meant to be broken, though we don't recommend using this as an excuse to a Judge.

However, we're about to break one of our own rules by including a debut single by duo Luxe For Fun - despite neither artist/musician hailing from these Scandinavian shores!

In our defense, your honor, their music was recorded in the excellent DeltaLab Studio, Copenhagen.

  • Tomi Malm - Walkin’ On Air

When you have spent the last twenty years building a solid reputation as a composer, arranger, orchestrator, and producer on a multitude of successful records, TV themes and multimedia scores, there is only one logical thing to do next. Release your own debut solo album.

And that is exactly what Walkin’ On Air is, a chance for the Finnish creator Tomi Malm to work without any brief, restrictions or considerations and the result is a glorious collection of songs that range from elegant jazz-infused pop grooves, smokey funk boogies, emotive and soaring ballads and a host of creative genre fusions.
