Carina Andersson - Lift My Spirit

Written by

Following on from her exquisite Stars EP, Swedish singer Carina Andersson returns with a new Jazzy/soulful sound and more gorgeous art.

Carina AnderssonI wish I had Carina Andersson's new EP - Lift My Spirit as a double A side 12” vinyl instead of a digital download, because essentially that's what this five-track EP is. It means I would also have a stunning piece of art to display beside my turntable. Amazingly, all the wonderful cover artwork are original paintings by Carina.

“The artwork is supposed to fit with the music as a theme (words, music and visuals). I chose the track 'Lift my Spirit' because I also wanted to show more of my Jazz singing side” says Carina.

The artwork does indeed fit as you look at the curves of blue, black and red hues whilst listening to the tracks flowing jazzy melodies. The new approach is part of Carinas collaboration with the production and writing skills of Luke (Hopper) Parkhouse.

However, it's the second song, 'Take Us To The Place' that is my clear favourite.

I really enjoy Carina's sweet vocals, and the funky layered instruments on this, but what delights me the most is the EP's track list and the song lengths.

1.Lift My Spirit 06:32

2.Lift My Spirit (Instrumental) 06:32

3.Take Us To The Place 09:25

4.Take Us To The Place (Instrumental) 09:25

5.Take Us To The Place (Radio Edit) 03:33

The 3:33 minute version of 'Take Us To The Place' is, without doubt, enjoyable. Radio edits are needed to make it commercially viable for radio stations, but it's the addition of the full 9.25 minutes that took me to other fun emotional dimensions. The equally long instrumental version is a super bonus, and I'm reminded of the classic vinyl instrumental B-sides on my old reggae and lovers rock discs!

For me, every EP should be created like this.

All 34.52 minutes of the EP 'Lift My Spirit' is available on Bandcamp for only £4.
That's less than the price of a Beer in Sweden, and half the price of a Snickers in Norway!

In two tracks Carina takes you to a place of good music full of heart, soul and art -  terrific!
