Produced by Peter 'DJ Pecut' Bruhn of Soul Leaf Music, 'Locked in My Mind' is Tanya’s debut solo EP and includes the single “Queen of Everything”. The cover to that single should be a poster!
The EP opens up with “Soul Leaf” - a word play and tribute to her production label. Despite a determined effort to embrace this track’s soulful vibe, the term ‘soul leaf’ confused me. ‘Feeling like a soul leaf’ is simply not a description I’ve heard before or can make sense of. A slight lyrical change here would really have made all the difference.
Track #2, “Possible”, is THE killer track for me.
If you only listen to one track from Tanya, this is the one I recommend. The bassline complements Tanya’s voice and gives it the thumping support it needs while she gives her best performance to date. Just listen to Tanya’s vocals around 3:11. In my headphones (Phillips Fidelio M1 MII), the beat is tight and the production and mix of the background vocals are sumptuous!
A salute to the ladies of the world follows with “Queen of Everything”. The video to this positive track is below, and the visuals really lift this song up.
The EP's title track, “Locked in My Mind”, unfortunately slips away from the high standard of “Possible”.
Tanya’s pitch and sweet tone may not be to everyone’s liking, but it fits perfectly on the right tracks. I have no doubt Tanya will continue working to find them.
Strongly recommended track: Possible
