Stevie Nii-Adu Mensah
Co-founder of Scandinavian Soul, I'm a trained music teacher, keyboardist, producer, writer and dancer. I enjoy travel and I've studied and worked abroad for 7 years, exposing me to a climate of different cultures, and a multitude of ways of creating the art I love so much.
...well, musically and sonically yes.
After producing music for a wide range of artists in an era where producers usually stick to one or a limited set of genres, Swedish music producer Christian Falk was never afraid to approach any type of project with deep interest and passion.
For one night only (Friday, March 15), Sweden’s official jazz club Fasching delivered an impressive evening of songs in the key of Erykah Badu, performed by a newly composed group called Mama's Conspiracy.
Newtimers - Ego EP review
After what seems like a long hiatus, the Stockholm duo Newtimers (Andreas Cavaco and Tim Lundblad) are back with a full project - Ego EP; five songs with a tingling 80's vibe, pop hooks and electro-funk which doesn’t slow these multi-talented composers and performers down.
I'm humbled after witnessing a new Swedish funk phenomenon concert at a free-for-all headlining gig in central Stockholm. Folks, keep the name “Helge” in your hearts and craniums.
Natanael is a Singer/Songwriter/Musician/Producer, from Stockholm, Sweden. This 26-year-old comes from an incredibly musical family, and you can feel that music's been running through his veins since birth. He even walks in tune.
With a humble yet confident persona, soul newcomer Elias Sahlin strolls into the room. There, he finds Andy Collins setting up his camera for an impromptu photo shoot of someone who is, in my opinion, a star in the making.
"Stealing" someone elses audience is not a bad thing, not at all.. After listening to the southern Swedish soul/rap/spoken word poetry crew S.T.I.C.S and interviewing and grooving to the rhythms of Trees multi-flowing beats.... I would say I'm a believer.
Speaking on S.T.I.C.S one might not be surprised of their "crossover" collaborations knowing that they are based in Helsinborg, fast becoming an inter & multi-cultural music mecca of Sweden.
It’s not often you see a music producer stepping from the shadow of his studio into the limelight and pouring his heart out with the passion you’d normally expect from a seasoned frontman; flailing around the stage as he sings and raps his way through a performance that reeks of SOUL and FULL-ON commitment. But 'Soulful' does just that.
In the Scandinavian soul game, longevity has proved to be a commodity that’s in short supply. And, yes, it’s true many of the older players have either changed lanes or bowed out completely, leaving precious few hanging on in there... However, some stalwarts do still remain with us.
With heavy reggae undertones, Danish soul vixen Stine Kinck hits us with a harmony-fueled project of 11 tracks.
Stine first attracted my attention when I was out on the east coast of the USA. I was really knocked out by the stuff she was doing in collaboration with several New York musicians. Her amazingly confident, strong and sensual tones impelled me to find out more.
