Nanna.B - Golden EP

Written by

Historically, this precious metal has always been desired due to its relative rarity and attractive colour.

Fittingly, the cover artwork of Danish soul singer Nanna.B new EP Golden* does indeed look desirable as it gleams in pure golden hues.

Now based in LA, does Nanna's five-track EP contain any musical nuggets within this shiny exterior?

I'm pleased to say you don't have to dig far to find sparkling gems.

The EP features a quartet of Producers; Anderson .Paak, Iman Omari, Bobby Earth and Swarvy. Each injects their unique flavourful beats and style to underline Nanna's soulful vocals.

The short intro - Au, leads you into the EP's title track - Golden produced by Grammy nominated Anderson .Paak. Released with a cool video, Golden features US Rapper Hodgy and his energetic, lyrical delivery buzz on this enjoyable track.

Hypnotic and dark in rhythm, track #3 Apocalyptic Love produced by Iman Omari, feels like a slow sexy hip-grind. The compelling melody seems to seep into your mind.

Nanna and Bobby Earth are both accredited for the production on track #4 Steady Line. Short in run length the stripped back production gives Nannas' blissful, neo-soul vocals a layer to float on.

Track #5 Antidote is the glittering treasure I unearthed.

It has the soulful balance, mix and production to shine like a star in the night sky. Nanna's smooth, tender vocals are entwined with captivating horns and dreamy echoes to the singles edge. As I always say, if you don't listen to this on quality headphones or speakers then you'll only hear half the music.

Gold is regarded as the pinnacle and the height of success. This Golden EP does indeed shine, and I already feel Nanna.B's forthcoming album will be a true winner. The EP gives us a teasing listen to what's ahead and with Nanna.B there's always more gold to be found.

4star rating
