ALBUM REVIEW

SOWECO - Keep On

SOWECO has already laid down a solid reputation for creating music which weaves smooth jazz-infused vibes through soulful grooves. Their new album does take a bit of finding, however, once you do track it down, you are in for a real treat.

EP REVIEW

Marie Dahlstrom - Nine EP

It is in the quieter and more considered moments that I often find the greatest pleasures. It is why Marie Dahlstrom’s new e.p. has been a constant soundtrack for a while now.

The Band Called Oh - Guerrilla Gardening

An album built around the concept of Guerrilla Gardening, a movement that sought to improve the urban decay of 60’s New York is certainly a brave and fascinating idea. We took a listen to the Norwegian band's new album.

Petrus Nordh - Break In Half

Composed, written, produced and mixed by Petrus Nordh, Break In Half is his second EP and it's a fitting point to discover the solo Swedish artist.

The four-track (excluding the interlude) glides with soulful influences, warm vocal tones and focused delivery.

Launching the new year in new style is the Prince of Scandinavian Soul, Bernhoft, whose musical style has developed and should we say, matured, over the past few months. Always regarded as a highly skilful and entertaining performer, the grammy nominated singers' new single - Visceral is an electronic /organic composition combining elements of soul, R&B and pop.

The highly anticipated and long-awaited new album AMYGDALA from Swedish singer Tingsek is out now!

The 14 track album features the singles The Fiddlers, and Gas Station Gus - two skilfully crafted soulful singles, expressing the deep soul and haunting lyrical message Tingsek has been carefully constructing.

As you listen to AMYGDALA you’ll also discover the album is completely produced, written and sung with the same depth of musicianship and soulful passion.

Mark our words - AMYGDALA is Tingsek’s masterpiece, and one of the best albums you’ll hear all year!

After hearing Bernhoft light up the stage at this years Scandinavian Soul Music Awards (see pictures here), I was really looking forward to hearing what would come next for the coolest cat in glasses and the cravat!  What is clear on his first release since 2014’s Islander, is that his playfulness, musical dexterity and way with subtle, relatable lyrics remain in full effect.

The new 5 track E.P., Stop / Shutup / Shout It Out, heralds a seriously soulful addition to his catalogue.

Just released on SoundCloud is the new single - Stop/Shutup from the creative soul singer Bernhoft.

Now back in his homeland Norway, Bernhoft latest swinging soulful/pop track demonstrates how the hard working artist continues to develop and experiment with his sound.

Bernhoft’s going back to his roots

It’s somehow fitting that I should present Norwegian singer Bernhoft with the video of the year award at Katalin in Uppsala, Sweden, where the first ever Scandinavian Soul Music Award was held in 2014.

The multi-talented soul singer Bernhoft has only just arrived in Uppsala from Malmo. Now, mid-rehearsal ahead of tonight's performance, we relax backstage before his next interview. This is the second time I have sat with him and it never feels like he tries to be ‘cool’. However, dressed in black with his dark-rimmed glasses, he exudes coolness.

Backstage with a one man show

The tall Norwegian singer is dressed all in black with his cool trademark glasses and he smiles warmly as he reaches out his hand as we first meet.

Bernhoft Announces Swedish Date

Norwegian Soul Prince, Bernhoft announced his first-ever performance in Sweden at Fasching, Stockholm on Saturday 16 August.

Bernhoft, who recently released his third album ‘Islander’ (read our review here), is a multi-instrumental genius who performs with unrestrained loops, building layer upon layer until it sounds like a whole orchestra… and he does it all live.

Islander - Bernhoft takes safe risks

Having listened to Norwegian singer songwriter Bernhoft’s new long player Islander for a couple of weeks now, it is important to get this out of the way from the get-go. His follow up to 2008’s Ceramik City Chronicles and 2011’s Solidarity Breaks is not strictly speaking a soul LP, it definitely has it’s soulful elements and it wears its influences firmly on each sleeve with nods from the 80s Pop, Folk, Funk and Soul worlds, but a soul LP it definitely is not.
