The summer weather in Scandinavia may have been largely a disappointment, but it only took one listen to Norwegian band Rohey to put a huge, warm smile on our faces.
If you haven’t noticed, labels don’t really promote new bands anymore — just think about the names you hear on the radio — but here at scandinaviansoul.com, we love them! The fact that Rohey is a band is what caused us to notice them in the first place… and their exciting soulful sound keeps us coming back!
The four band members in Rohey are Kristian B. Jacobsen, Ivan Blomqvist, Rohey Taalah, and Henrik Lødøen. The group met at the jazz conservatory in Trondheim, where they discovered they all had a thing for “baggy grooves” (yeah, we’ve not heard of it either), slick chords, and vocals with real soul!
Their music is a mix of jazz, soul, and R&B with original songs and arrangements of jazz standards and pop tunes. In 2014, Rohey played at Dokkhuset in Trondheim, Oslo Jazz Festival, and Dølajazz in Lillehammer where they have been lifted up as crowd favourites!
It took one listen to the single “Postcard And A Smile”, and one glance at its iconic cover pic (see left), to know that we’d discovered something very, very special indeed!
