Beyond bubblegum formulated songs scaling the charts, there are releases just as addictively payable and often overlooked. And radio-friendly tunes don’t come better than this.
JFL‘s single How Are You? embraces you with an ’80’s soul-influenced, sunshine groove comparable to Doobie Brothers or KC and the Sunshine Band.
Written and produced by JFL (Johan Lindgren) and the Swedish artist is accompanied by Erik Bergström on saxophone and the soulful backing vocals of Bishat Araya and Sandra Widman.
Speaking exclusively to us Johan gave an insight into the track’s creation.
“The lyrics of the song is about those shallow answers to the question “How Are You?”. I guess we all have to reflect at some time: What are we chasing? Are we chasing anything at all? What’s feeding- or robbing your energy? We’ve got to be honest about how we feel; I mean ‘really’ feel.
My last single (Rosenlund, 2019) was my solo debut, and I wanted to prove to myself that releasing music isn’t that dangerous. I was eager to get back to having fun, playing with ideas and making them happen with no judgement upon myself.
I think that’s pretty much what I did with this one as well, I wasn’t expecting myself to write a ‘for-the-dancefloor’ song, but that bassline was just begging for it – and here we are!”
With Sweden in ‘part’ quarantine Johan added;
“Looking at everything that’s going on in the world right now, I feel like the timing of the song is crazy. I believe this whole COVID-quarantine thing gives us more time to reflect and explore – spending those extra hours with your thoughts.”
In answer to this singles’ question How Are You? Feeling good now JFL. Feeling good!
But I’d run if I see that guy on the cover!
