Ok, yes, this isn’t a soul single.
However, Linéa‘s cover version of Fleetwood Mac‘s single ‘Dreams‘ is soulful enough for us to share it with you.
And besides…she plays the sax!
I have to add a personal note here as I’ve developed a soft spot for female Sax players, having become smitten by the saxophonist in Donny Benét’s single – Konichiwa. I also realised I previously couldn’t name one.
After a clip recently went viral on TikTok, the ’80s ballad Dreams is currently high again in music consciousness. The smooth gliding rock ballad and a skateboarding man seemed to counterbalance this tumultuous year perfectly.
Accompanied by Alexander Mackenzie on guitar and Mads Løvenholdt on bass, Linéa’s live version covers Dreams with complementary brilliance. Her rendition is engaging, soulful, and her sax performance produces a new jazzier dimension. Recorded live at Mineral in Malmö, the empty candlelit tables create a poignant reminder of this challenging year.
Linéa arrived in 2020 with two impressive releases, and while she may not always stay in our soul lane, I hope it’s not long before more people find her.
Her vibes are too good to miss.
