We’re breaking our own rules here, as we sometimes do, and introducing you to an artist whose music is soul-influenced yet undeniable pop.
We were first introduced to young Swedish singer Shalisa Taylor by a late, and dear friend songwriter/producer Brian Hobbs. Brian worked with and introduced us to singers like Andreas Aleman, Emelinda, SoLi and Marcus Lindgren. Shalisa was also a student of his.
I’ve listened to Shalisa for a couple of years, and her latest release confirms a singer on the right path, and it continues to head upwards.
Shalisa voice evokes images of Lilly Allen, Adele and MIss Li as she delivers alluring, delicate and charming vocals, like warm rays of sunshine through honey brown leaves.
‘Yours to Keep is about falling in love with the idea of love. Trying to find and hold on to that feeling for as long as possible. But when the fantasy dies reality steps in and with that comes consequences. Those consequences always scared me, so when they came, I would leave.’ said Shalisa to us.
‘This song is basically an apology letter, where it is explained that hurtful choices were made and that was never the intention. Feelings where there, but the courage to follow up on those feelings was too small to act on. In the end, instead of making great things, nothing was said. The promise of “yours to keep” was never made.’
Signed to indie label Rexius Records you might not see Shalisa’s name posted here often, but we expect and hope to hear her everywhere else, often.
Just remember where you listened to her first!
