Beverly Girl celebrate 10th Anniversary with Promo Tape
Finnish electronic disco band honour their beginning by reviving the past.
To mark their 10th Anniversary, Finnish disco revivers Beverly Girl re-released their infamous Promo Tape for the first time on 7″ vinyl – which has already sold out!
The few who instantly grabbed copies can spin two songs – Move On and You Could Be The One – re-mixed and re-mastered for vinyl. Luckily it is released digitally too!
From the opening, Move On hooks you, seductively teasing you in before the solid groove ignites. Everything about the track, including the get-down instrumental break, indicates the electric band they would become.
Recorded between August and September 2011 in Helsinki, the promo tape almost reached mythical status as its impact propelled Beverly Girl into disco clubs and on airwaves. Their style of boogie, funk, and R&B altered enthusiasts in Finland and Europe to the trio’s glittering sound comparable with the finest 80’s soul giants.
Their killer drum machine, synths, and powerful female vocals – courtesy of lead singer Yohanna – have all contributed to a magnetic sound prompting comparisons to Janet Jackson, The System, and Cheryl Lynn.
Based in their hometown Helsinki, Finland, the glamorous trio has remained at the forefront of Nordic funk’s scene renaissance. Beverly Girls latest album The Unstoppable Force LP certainly keeps them there.
