With her words and music, Swedish singer and songwriter Elma has perfected the art of reflecting on life in all its facets.
Elma’s been featured repeatedly on our site for years and with good reason as her stream of soulful releases always captures the senses. Her stage performances are as entrancing as her music, and her natural charisma radiates.
Her latest release Knock Knock once again draws on the experiences of life around her, forming them into a soulful and heartfelt piece. Behind the arrangement is Daniel Migdal who crafts the strings to add an extra emotional depth. Melancholic yet gentle, with graceful strings weaving beneath hushed tones, Elma expresses tenderness and love with quiet strength.
Elma explained the song’s theme:
“I wrote the song for a friend who’s been struggling with mental health issues. They refused help and were in denial, and eventually I had to step back. It was heartbreaking to watch them unravel and feel powerless to stop it. This song is about begging somebody to let you in—and, ultimately, letting them go.”
Knock Knock resonates as Elma’s ode to empathy and understanding. It is music that comes directly from her heart and always from her soul.
