Swedish artist MENSAHIGHLIFE has released his latest soulful single, Gulli, featuring Yasemin Yekta Salik – a tribute to Gulistan Yorulmaz.
Gulistan Yorulmaz died from cancer in 2020, and she was my dear friend, too, so this post and song has a much deeper meaning.

Even though I could easily describe Gulistan as fun-loving and happy, she was much more than this. She radiated happiness. Lighting up a room with her infectious smile, attentive eyes, and caring manner Gulistan has music in her heart. She was a devoted and passionate supporter of mine and a driving motivation from the outset of this website’s inception. She meant a lot to me and others and always will. So today, on her 41 birthday, MENSAHIGHLIFE (Stevie Nii Adu Menshah) released his soulful single in her memory.
Drawing on musical influences from her Kurdish roots, the soulful track features vocals by Marcela Soto Gonzalez, Patricia Reyes, Martina De Leo, Nah-Toe Krote (Drums), Samuel Lancine, and Victor Gardner (Guitar), with Yasemin Yekta Salik providing spoken word vocals.
MENSAHIGHLIFE described the song’s recording as follows:
‘It was an emotional recording process, but it felt so good having Gulistan’s close friends involved with the track.”
Losing a loved one is never easy, and one never gets over it. Music is a powerful tool and can help us cope with grief and remember the good times. Gulistan’s legacy will live on through her loved ones and now her favourite love, too – music.
