To do anything right, you have to go all in.
You have to commit.
Not to get all religious and shit, but God is in the detail.
A first look at Swedish soul band The Burdens and you’re aware of the additional time and effort allocated beyond the music to their style. The seven-member band make their premiere appearance and confirm they are fully committed to their mission – to deliver authentic ’60s, influenced soul – from slick quiffs to sharp Mod clothing.
Their single Tears, released with a video by Oskar Bäcklin (see above), has a fast, bop-shuffling tempo, a pacy Saxophone and a production which retains the sound of a live studio recording. This could easily have been captured on a vintage console!
The Burdens hail from Sweden’s west coast city of Gothenburg, Sweden. Inspired from both past, and present influences such as The Band, Etta James and Otis Redding as well as contemporary artist such as Leon Bridges, this abundant wealth of music is fused into a sound defining their own identity. The band have been crafting their art by building a live -scene reputation before embracing social media (see below). These cats, really are old-skool!
It is always exciting to see young bands forming especially within the genre of soul music.
Currently, there is little information of the members’ names, however, be assured we’ll be investigating The Burdens further, and when quarantine lifts, a trip to see them in Gothenberg is definitely in order!
