Dusty R&B, the new release from Whose Rules is the ideal calling card to an artist whose flow is characterful, charming and atmospheric.
Sung in English, the singles imaginative soundscape, high vocal pitch and ‘outre’ video (at one point he seems to attack a tree log – see above) takes us into a pop world framed by a softly-twisted soulful dimension. It’s wondrously fun and seductive!
Whose Rules says of ‘Dusty R&B’, “Yet another love song. My favourite thing is to relax and chill out in my own home, and it’s even better when you are with someone you love.
Looking back this is the song that inspired me to make all the other tracks on the [forthcoming] EP.”
Whose Rules is 23-year-old Norwegian producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who grew up on a flower farm just outside of Oslo. For the past three years he has been squirrelling away, creating music inspired by the sounds of Gus Dapperton and Mac DeMarco with Thundercats’ sonic palate.
Rewind his two previous releases ‘Malarkey‘ and ‘We Might Ova‘, and you get an undeniable sense these influences have brought its reward and developed into a sound distinctly his own.
His musical playfulness is also reflected in his cover art where he explores creative uses for CDs!

His debut single Malarkey landed him in the top 5 of Spotify’s Fresh Finds playlist.
And the electronic slow jam We Might Ova simply sizzles.
I am already gleefully spinning into his ‘musicshpere’ and have tingling good feelings about Whose Rules. The scene has a new artist/producer to take real note of.
The self-titled EP Whose Rules lands *Oct 18*. (Date corrected)
