Some voices arrive like a quiet revelation, reshaping our listening. For fans of Scandinavian soul, Sletta is one such artist. The London-based Norwegian singer/songwriter emerged in 2021, instantly weaving her distinctive jazzy soul into the fabric of this genre. Her 2024 debut EP Sometimes We Have To Look Inward introduced a sound as introspective as it is captivating, with the track Do What You Want the ideal calling card.
Sletta’s latest single, Out of Time, drifts with a delicate grace. Her vocal delivery flows like a paper boat on still waters—intimate, unhurried, and weightless. Though the title hints at urgency, the track instead offers a moment of calm, where each note feels like a gentle exhale. The production, free from clutter, lets the song’s serene core shine—a minimalist haven for the ears.
The single credits Sletta as writer, co-producer, and vocalist, joined by a skilled ensemble: Jake Black on drums, production and mixing, Matt May on bass, Adam Hughes on keys, and Tjoe Man Cheung on guitar. Together, they craft a sound that draws on neo-soul, contemporary jazz, and folk, delivering something that feels both familiar and genuine.
For fans of Cleo Sol, Yebba, Lianne La Havas, Robert Glasper, or Cosima, Sletta’s music offers a similarly heartfelt and authentic connection.
Sletta’s rising acclaim is well-earned. Her sold-out performance at the EFG London Jazz Festival in 2024 and the Servant Jazz Quarters (where this writer included remained ticketless) left audiences spellbound.
In a world often too loud, Out of Time reminds us of soul-soothing calmness. With Sletta at the helm, we’re happy to drift together.
