In an era where many artists tend to blur into one another, it’s the distinct voices that leave a lasting impression. Norwegian soulstress Sofia Aarvik possesses such a voice, her lyrics carrying rich, warm melodies. Aarvik’s voice is a refreshing breeze in the contemporary music, offering something naturally soulful.
Sofia Aarvik, known for her soulful pop releases, showcases her remarkable versatility in her latest release, ‘Addicted‘ – a track that infuses a soulful dance groove into her already impressive repertoire.
RATS
‘Addicted‘ emerges as a chill yet vibrant and playful melody, brimming with self-irony and exaggeration while maintaining a serious undertone inspired by rats…
Research reveals that rats, unaware of their next meal’s timing, become increasingly fixated and addicted to predicting its arrival. Conversely, when food arrives predictably, they remain composed, mirroring human experiences with love. Another study on addiction shows that rats in enriching environments exhibit reduced reliance on accessible drugs, suggesting that contentment diminishes dependency.
In “Addicted,” Sofia transitions from fixating on ‘the drug,’ symbolising the love interest, to embracing self-focus. The chorus transforms poignantly from a plea, “Please don’t abandon me. Heart scream. Don’t ever, ever, ever let me go,” to a declaration of self-reliance, “I won’t abandon me. Heart’s free. I’ll never, ever, ever let me go.”
Written with producer Simen Kjølberg, the song begins with a serene intro, setting a tranquil mood. Yet, as the chorus arrives, the energy surges. Sofia’s soaring vocals intertwine with a bass-heavy groove, crafting an irresistible single.
We highly recommend cranking up the volume to fully appreciate every beat of this delectable track. ‘Addicted’ is one of those releases where three minutes simply aren’t enough. However, its ‘addictive’ – so go ahead, hit rewind, and get your fix again.
Addicted is taken from her forthcoming EP ‘Ghosts’ due June 14.
