Read my Lips is Mira Palme‘s debut release as a solo artist and drops a catchy soul nugget with a message.
When the needle sets into this groove, it drives along with the essential elements of soul, R&B and hip hop with a ’90’s cool breeze. And similarly begs the volumes is turned to the max!
With a punchy bass and catchy chorus, the high-grade production and assured soulful vocals should come as no surprise as Mira Palme background reveals.
Mira Palme has sung behind none other than Stevie Wonder and toured with Swedish Rapper Timbuktu in the performance ‘En droppe midnatt’. She is also a member/percussionist in Linnea Henriksson‘s band and has also collaborated with Tingsek and Sofia Jannok among many others.
Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, raised and based in Stockholm, Sweden, her duel background forms the inspiration for her lyrics and music. ‘Read My Lips‘ is about her experiences of growing up as a black girl in a white world.
“This song is based on a strong memory. A memory from an event that followed me all my life. If there is one thing I want to convey, it is to dare to believe in oneself even when the outside world does everything to make you doubt.”
It is, however, the warming melodies and harmonies of R&B, hip hop, jazz and soul rather than pop, rock or metal through which Mira skilfully expresses herself.
If Mira Palme aims to establish her solo name, then Read My Lips is an exceptional way to start.
