Barbara Moleko, who we haven’t written about in a while, has dropped her new single – Hemmelighed. The new track, soaked in R&B flavour, marks a welcome return of the soulful pioneer.
The Danish/South African songstress has been at the forefront of the new wave of soul and R&B since 2012 with her native sung, poppish vibe and funky urban attitude. Together with a charming off-stage personality, the Barbara has quickly become a household name to the Danish public. Her style forged an opening for bands like Phlake and Scarlet Pleasure while re-igniting the fire of Scandinavian Soul Godfather Jonas Rendbo.
Despite the classic-styled cover artwork the track is crafted from modern R&B, interjected with a reggae beat that begs the hips to sway. The context of the text may be lost to non-Danish speakers, yet the sentiment of the track’s title Hemmelighed (Secret) can be heard through her hushed, breathy tones.
Barbara continues to deliver accessible and enjoyable music across all languages.
