D/troit have the wind in their sails.
This April they fly across the Atlantic to play for the cream of the American music industry at MusExpo in LA. In the bag, they have their recent prize from the Scandinavian Soul Music Awards (SSMA) for ‘Best Band‘. As well as two nominations for the Carls Prize in Denmark, radio attention in the UK and the US – and now a brand new video for the title song from their debut EP; ‘Do The Right Thing ‘.
The idea for the video came when members of the band were on a trip to Thailand. There they witnessed a tremendous openness towards transvestites and transgender people. A true celebration of openness and tolerance inspired the video’s little tale. Director Emil Vinther developed the idea – do YOUR thing and you will ‘Do the Right Thing’.
D/troit have been busy
The Copenhagen soul band recently made a trip to Stockholm to receive the prize ‘Best Band‘ at the SSMA’s. In Denmark’s prestigious songwriters awards the ‘Carl Prize’, they are nominated in two categories – ‘composer of the year’ in the Roots category and ‘this year’s best new talent’ award.
While some have been able to enjoy the debut EP ‘Do the Right Thing’ since last summer, the British are still waiting to hear this exciting soul band – where it will be released in May.
A UK radio campaign has just started and D/troit are starting to surf on the English radio waves, just like they have started to do in the US, where they have already had a few hundred spins on radio.
In April they’ll head across the Atlantic to the soul music motherland to play two shows in LA at the music industry event MusExpo.
Here they will meet the cream of the American and international music industry – one of the most formidable audiences a new band can face. However, D/troit will arrive well prepared, after a highly active 2015 playing venues and festivals across Denmark.
Last year they ‘won’ the panel discussion at MusExpo entitled ‘Play Us Your Hit‘ with the track ‘The 45‘. It sounds like another exciting journey for D/troit!
