We’re welcoming a new artist, Family Kush, into the Scandinavian soul world and his debut single, Sheleg was our doors not-so-secret password.
Sheleg brings a catchy cocktail of layered soulful harmonies, with ’80s inspired fun and funky sensations.
It feels good
from the first listen.
You know, that’s the sound we’re always looking for!
Behind Family Kush is Israeli born Sephy (Joseph) Madar, a new Swedish resident. The official video (above) oozes the charm and wonder of a stranger in a new land.
Keen to discover more about the Family Kush we spoke to Sephy to get his back story.
“So I’m originally from Israel. A few years ago I met a Swedish girl back in Tel Aviv. We moved in together and lived there for a couple of years. Back then I had this band Young Yosef, and I was travelling a lot between Tel Aviv-Berlin cause we were playing some shows and festivals in Germany every spring and summer.”
“Last year the band split and my girlfriend I decided to try something fresh so we moved to Gothenburg Sweden. Simultaneously we had a baby girl! So I guess, in a way the song Sheleg (which means snow in Hebrew) was about all of that change I was going through, moving to a new country, getting used to the new father role as well as trying to figure out where I’m going with making music on my own.”
“After a few months here I found a studio and started to record my first album under the name Family Kush. Sheleg is the first single from the album, I played most of the instruments on it and mixed and mastered it. It features Hush Moss on guitar and back vocals.”
A very warm welcome to our soulful family, Family Kush!
