As I write this the world is in a real crisis.
It’s one week after the horrific murders in Paris, 43 people killed were in Beirut and gunmen in Baga, Nigeria have killed many, with figures ranging from 150 to over 2,000. Depressingly my screen just alerted me to a new terrorist attack currently happening in Mali.
This list of terrorist incidents, 2015 is updated daily… not yearly.
When we add the increasing visual murders and persecution of Black people in America, Global Warming, and the growing rise of open racism, it can all feel too much.
Music, at its very core, has always reflected the times they were in – songs from slavery, gospel, blues, rock & roll, punk, etc. It’s part of our culture. It’s how we express ourselves. Music is also tied to our humanity and our sense of belonging. Sometimes, and naturally, we just want to tune out, however, we also need to nourish our shattered souls particularly with music that reflect our current times, situation and emotions.
Therefore, from time to time we’ll add soulful Scandinavian tracks that bring social commentary and/or are produced to offer real reflective thought.
We start with Swedish Producer DJ Freddie Cruger feat. Desmond Foster. The aptly titled – Movin’ Amongst Madness has a mellow groove and a touching spirit. Listen below.
Meanwhile, we truly hope for better days.
