Crate digger Funky Loffe has compiled a selection of Swedish soul cover versions lovingly transferred from vinyl to digital to reminisce the ’70s / ’80s, or introduce you to new hidden gems. Or, to test your powers of recognition.
The mix is a fascinating journey into Swedens musical past. Soul singers such as Magnus Kvintett and Tommy Körberg soulfully emulate the originals or alternatively reinterpreting the lyrics for a Swedish audience.
Svate Thuressons‘ – Jag Vill Ha All Din Kärlek (I’m not going to write the original title #nospoilers) has to list under ‘Scandinavian soul classic‘ alongside almost anything by The Gimmicks. Formed by Leif Carlqvist in 1968 The Gimmicks were part of the pioneering bands bringing black and Latin music home to Sweden. Today The Gimmicks sought after albums list under ‘Scandinavian Soul rare groove’.
DJ Funky Loffe selection features versions by the giants of soul music such as Otis Redding, Bill Withers and lesser-known classics such as You Can’t Hide Love by Creative Source (#raregroove #spoiler).
