Out today is a new single – If We Try from the female collective Her Songs. The track ticks every box of a soul lovers requirements – superb production, elegant vocals and emotional connection.
Her Songs consists of Emmavie (UK), Emily C Browning (New Zealand), The Naked Eye (UK/France), Marie Dahlstrøm (Denmark) and Dani Murcia (US/Colombia).
What began as a conversation between five women on social media, soon became Her Songs – a global group connected through a love of soul and R&B.
The group released their debut EP ‘Los Angeles‘ in 2018 and immediately captivated with their dreamy ’90s fused soul/R&B on singles such as Goodbye, Just a Phase and the summery magic of – Alright. It’s no surprise really when Danish-London based member Marie Dahlstrøm is involved. The singer/songwriters’ sumptuous sound has already established her as a pioneer and icon within the Scandinavian soul world.

On their latest release If We Try, Her Songs voices continue to harmonise with melodies that glide like a rich moisturiser gently massaged on the skin. Soothing, mellow and warming the song was written by members Emmavie and Marie Dahlstrøm.
Describing the song, Marie Dahlstrøm says, ‘If We Try’ is about asking the person you love for a second chance. Sometimes people are quick to break relationships off when things get rough, but this song is about finding strength in vulnerability. We live in a world of instant gratification and relationships can often feel replaceable. We wanted to change the narrative: you get so much more when you try.’
If We Try is the first release from their new EP ‘Toronto Vol. 1‘. I’m already adding this to my best of 2020 list.
