A woman slowly saunters towards a car parked in a desolate area where a smartly dressed woman in dark shades waits. Her neck is soaked in blood. The wind catches her long blonde hair, gently lifting it high enough to reveal the soulstress’s cool blue eyes and delicate features.
As you can tell, the video to Swedish artist JÁNA’s single Joyride is pure cinematic in styling. This late-night single is a smooth and mellow mix of R&B / Pop with a hypnotic chorus. While the background story of her blood-covered image remains unknown, her statement on her new EP Work may reveal its origins.
“On this new EP, I’ve got more verbal with my anger and frustrations. It’s kind of scary but also liberating to me because I rarely express these things in real life. So I think you should write things that scare you or at least something to awaken that frustration.”
JÁNA (aka Johanna Andrén) was introduced to the world via her collaborations with Swedish heavyweights Little Dragon on her debut solo EP Flowerwork. Joyride is taken from her latest EP, ‘Work‘, out now via Majestic Casual Records, carrying her into new sonic directions as she releases her distress.
Joyride is certified to ease any of life’s discomforts.
