During Denmarks Pandemic lockdown, the Godfather of Scandinavian Soul, Jonas Rendbo, used the opportunity to dive into his archives and recover and revitalise previously unfinished projects.
Together with UK producer, The Scratch Professer, the EP 4WARD FAST TO FUTURE proved to be one of his best-ever releases. His sound, first developed in the ’90s, defined Denmark’s burgeoning soul scene and remains just as pleasurable.
Never one to sit still, Jonas takes the EP on a version excursion courtesy of a selection of friends and partners; Soulrebel, Dadson, JVC, The Scratch Professer, Andreas Laustsen and Tony Ozier. Each brings their twists, fresh flavours and re-imaginations from reggae, funk and downright dirty bass on the tracks What’s Cooking, Let’s Fight and Pick Me Up.
Bass lovers should wake the neighbours with The Scratch Professer Retwist of What’s Cooking. And Reggae lovers like myself can ‘relax innaself’ with What’s Cooking – the Dadson Remix.
Each version retains What’s Cooking soulful, original message of taking care of yourself. See the official video below.
Keeping the Scandinavian connection connected, Soulrebel (Swedish producer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Fridell) remixes What’s Cooking and Let’s Fight with sublime layers of melodic introductions. And Andreas Laustsen sprinkles spongy jazz on Pick Me Up (Andreas Laustsen Remix).
These versions were only possible with a solid foundation of the original cuts. 4WARD FAST TO FUTURE (REMIXES) offers soundscapes for all music lovers to discover how the Godfather planted the essential seeds from which the soulful Scandinavian scene continues to grow.
