The second release from Josef Sjöblom‘s upcoming album, Dear Soul, is an utterly compelling listen. And while it may not be defined as spoken soul, the term fits this poetic song.
Featuring non-binary songwriter/producer and artist Storm Dunder, they channel inner emotions and self-reflections through poetic lyricism on this thought-provoking single. With a haunting piano-based soundscape, their voice is captivating, and their letter to themselves is relatable. Their poetic lyricism challenges listeners to think more deeply about their connection with their body and its history. Told over a minimalist arrangement, this spoken soul/spoken word single draws the listener into it.
Round & Round
Preceding Dear Soul, Josef Sjöblom released Round & Round. Blending future and neo-soul, it features Swedish artist Matilda Gratte (Elma), whose vocals are as immersive as always. This is a delightful collaboration between two Swedish talents filled with soulful energy and a testament to their creative cohesion.
As a pianist and keyboardist, Swedish musician Josef is primarily influenced by Afro-music/jazz and classical influences. As a pianist, he plays in the deMilo and Rensjö duos and accompanies choirs and solo performers. Additionally, he also writes signature melodies and soundtracks for theatre, short films, podcasts, and commercials.
After being treated to hearing a preview of Josef Sjöblom’s upcoming album Chapters, we can confirm that the rest is just as enjoyable. Stay tuned!
