Danish songwriter, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Ki! has released a new single, Happy, in collaboration with singer Steffen Westmark.
According to Ki!, this song ‘is his way of paying homage to Motown that had always inspired him, but with a modern, re-imagining twist‘. And this homage lives up to his desire.
Happy (which is not a cover of Pharrell Williams’s hit) is underpinned by a classic retro-soul sound. It’s clear that Ki! is a truly experienced musician as the interaction and balance between his vocal pitch, the production and the musicians are skillfully executed.
Released on Crunchy Frog records, the birthplace of soul band D/troit, the studio walls must echo with their smoke and whiskey vibes, as they also filter into this track. It’s soul we adore.
‘Happy‘ has a ray of sunshine and a mood-lifting personality. We seriously look forward to hearing more from this talented musician!
Reverse lights on!
As we drive along the country roads in the sweltering heat of a Nordic summer, we also took a listen to Ki’s three previous releases. He seems to have a strong connection to Vietnam and while the single Mây Trôi impresses the instrumental Nắng ấm (featuring Trung Hoa Tran) added the ice cubes to our sparkling colas. Tasty stuff!
