Danish band hit the licking stick!
The mantle of soul of funk, established by the Godfather James Brown, is firmly handed over to Denmark’s finest soul outfit D/troit.
Gotta Have Soul, the latest cut from the disciples of soul, is born from the DNA of funk with the trademark licks and band members collectively singing ‘Gotta Have Soul’. Their call comes with a weightier resonance, arriving at a time when the people of this world need to do some serious soul searching, have fun and live.
Describing the song, D/troit said:
It’s ’bout to go down! Gotta Have Soul sounds like a hot room full of dancing bodies – it’s soul and funk to the bone, loose in all the right places, and tight in all the right places. It’s a party to the theme of “if you want anything out of life, you gotta have soul” – say what you mean, mean what you say. Pour your heart and soul into it.
The track is a true homage to the genre’s founders, with Soul written in capital S. The vintage-styled video complied by Morten Madsen of POPSHIT FILM is edited and shot with the same energy and dynamism that the single radiates. Vibrant stage performances and killer graphics are all part of D/troit’s identity.
Gotta Have Soul is the final release before their long-awaited sophomore album Heavy, set for release on Crunchy Frog on Friday 3 June 2022!
