Domestic violence against women is something that is sadly still present and common in Scandinavia, and Swedish singer Luana Kiara tackles the subject in her strong single and video – Trigger.
According to a study by Social Science & Medicine (May 2016) the actual term for why there’s a growing abuse is called the Nordic Paradox. Nordic countries are the most gender equal countries in the world, but at the same time, they have a disproportionally high rate of intimate partner violence against women. This Nordic paradox is a question rarely asked, and one that remains unanswered.
Luana shows the harsh reality in the video, and despite the beautiful choreography, it’s uncomfortable viewing – as it should be. Musically the single – Trigger is an intense RnB and hip-hop fused listen, which impacts with and without the visuals.
Writing on Facebook Luana Kiara wrote “I want to dedicate this video to all the women living in silence. I know it can feel lonely, but you’re not alone. Anyone could be fighting a battle you know nothing about. This video means so much to me, I hope you guys like it, and hopefully, it can help someone.”
