Oozing with an elegant class of soul, Malu sets another marker in her discography of skilled penmanship with her latest release – Crocodile Tears.
Crocodile Tears is dedicated to women who suppress crying for fear of judgment, wrapped in her harmonious tones and a warm, funky groove.
In an Instagram post, Malu explained further the song’s theme.
‘There are so many expectations in society as to what a woman should and should not be. Being a woman and a highly sensitive person, I am often met with judgement and negative reactions. I have always worn my heart on my sleeve and had a hard time hiding my tears. Words like hysterical and dramatic are labels I have often been given because big feelings are an inconvenience to people who don’t feel them or try to avoid them.’
But as I get to know myself better, I’m learning to accept them as the great strength they are and to look at myself in a different light. With this song, I try to break with the nice-girl syndrome and the idea that you are weak or fragile, or should not be taken seriously if you have big emotions and are easily reduced to tears. If you have ever felt like me – this song is for you.’
As a male, this message also resonates as the sensitive side of masculinity is often ridiculed and therefore suppressed. We should all applaud honest emotions. And needless to say, this soul messenger – Malu.
