The debut single from Neon Ion ‘Neon Dreams‘ set the disco lights on bright with a groove-gliding vibe. Now, the Norwegian songstress’s second single, Bring It Back dims the lights to deliver sumptuously mellow R&B/pop goodness. Natalie Sandtorv is aka Neon Ion, and her vocals are creamy smooth ontop warming synths and a deep bassline.
Describing the theme behind the lyrics, Sandtorv says “It’s a little look back to my previous work [jazz]. I wanted to say ‘goodbye’ to it in the intro, to be able to focus on something new.”
“It’s also about falling flat on your face and having to get back up. I felt I was heading somewhere I didn’t want to go, trying to catch up with the rest of the world, trying to find the right way to do things.”
“‘Bring It Back’ is about being scared to rely on someone too much,” says Sandtorv. “Because if that person suddenly disappeared I don’t know if I would be okay.”
“Sometimes you lose yourself a little, and it’s important to remember who you are and not be afraid to make your own decisions.”
Bring It Back is the second track from Neon Ion’s debut album Heart Echoes, which is out 8 May on Jazzland Recordings.
2020 has unquestionably been a dark year, but through it, Neon Ion glows.
