War in Syria along with many other factors has meant the number of migrants trying to reach the European Union has increased sharply over the past two years. In the Balkans, thousands of people flee Kosovo every month in the hope of finding employment and a better life in the EU. Faced with the scale of the crisis, nationalist parties have become increasingly vocal in their opposition to policies of resettlement and cultural diversity in countries such as Denmark, Sweden and France.
Danish soul singer invites us to engage in unconditional love with his new track and video ‘Hvor Dit Hjerte Bor’ (How Your Heart Lives).
The track is sung in Danish and we asked Jonas more about the message in the song and the video, directed by Nitesh Anjaan.
‘The video is shot at Avnstrup Refugee Camp, home to about 400 refugees” said Jonas. “It shows people who need help and care. It shows the real faces of the people we talk so much about. The song is a call for the Danes to find humanity and share love. With the hope that we may be allowed to keep these lovely people. Together, maybe we could become something greater and bigger?”
“The lyrics in the chorus are something like this: Take me with you to right where your heart lives – just give me a new place where I can continue to grow – take me with you to right where everything is in bloom – just give me an opportunity to experience new things.”
Jonas releases his new, highly anticipated album Først Til Sidst (First To Last) on the 25 September. Featured artists include; Ukendt Kunstner, Lord Siva, Højer Øye and Jaleesa Johnson.
