The Scandinavian soul musicsphere welcomes a fresh and exciting collaboration with the launch of Orbits, a trio of Norwegian talents who have come together to create a sound that transcends genre boundaries. Orbits is composed of Lars Horntveth, acclaimed producer Erlend Mokkelbost, and the enchanting vocalist Natalie Sandtorv of Neon Ion. Originally formed to craft a commissioned piece, Glass, for the Moldejazz Festival in 2022, however, their creative chemistry proved too powerful to confine themselves to a single project, leading to the birth of this innovative new band.
We’re always thrilled when creative forces combine to produce something extraordinary. Orbits offers a refreshing alternative for listeners who seek depth in their music — something more engaging than just background noise.
Orbits and Synthetic sweetness provide the dopamine boost we all need.
Their debut single, Synthetic Sweetness, is a captivating 6+ minute journey through a vibrant blend of pacy beats and rich basslines, filled with dynamic shifts that ensure it stands out amidst the sea of generic tracks populating streaming platforms. The song pulls you in, taking you on an voyage that is as much about the journey as the destination.
As regular readers might know, this writer has a particular fondness for tracks that aren’t constrained by the typical 3-minute radio format. Synthetic Sweetness is one such track, allowing ample space for the vocals to soar and retreat, the synths to electrify, and the instrumentation to shine, all while keeping you engaged throughout.
“The song is a heartfelt exploration of love, loss, and personal growth,” shares Natalie Sandtorv. “The lyrics delve into the complexities of relationships, capturing the bittersweet emotions that accompany both closeness and separation.” Her smooth and captivating vocals, paired with the song’s poignant yet catchy chorus, are beautifully complemented by rolling drums, wild keys, and a searing guitar solo, making this track a standout.
Musically, Orbits embodies the distinct styles and influences of its members and show all that is good when artists from different genres come together to create something new and exciting.
