Rebecca Sjöberg is an artist we hadn’t heard of before – but we are delighted we have now. This highly talented Swedish songwriter, producer and artist is releasing her first EP later, and she describes it as “being human among other humans [our translation].” We cannot wait to hear it, and we’re treated to a listen to its first single, ‘Blir jag hund‘ (loosely translated as “Becoming dog / as a dog“).
Blir jag hund is attention-catching from pressing play. The first note radiates dynamic characteristics of originality and depth while feeling spontaneous and intriguing. It is smooth but has a lot of emotion; it’s classy but raw, and we get the feeling of listening to a live performance.
We don’t just hear the music. We experience it.
Rebecca describes her music as combining alternative pop, soul and folk. We can hear all of these, but we can also hear a large portion of jazz. Her sound reminds us of Swedish jazz legend Lisa Ekdahl, but with a modern twist. With her unique and raspy voice, and relatable and cleverly penned lyrics, Rebecca Sjöberg has twisted the Swedish jazz sound into something edgy and exciting – and we applaud her for it.
