Norwegian artist Saima is back with her new single, ‘Perfume‘, and she presents a seductive, magnetic and sensual song that will catch your attention immediately.
We last heard Saima last year with her smooth-flowing single No Superficial Love and the sultry songstress now serves a sumptuous new track.
Saima describes the theme of ‘Perfume‘ as ‘being about desire, and about doing what feels right with a special someone – sentiments that she has captured very well in “Perfume”. ‘
The track warmly radiates modernity, subtly fragranced with ’90s R&B influences. It has elements that remind us of, for example, the international hit “Hrs and Hrs” by Muni Long and vocals that remind us of Joyce Wrice, Brandy or Mya. We cannot praise Saima’s vocals enough. She has a wonderful, soulful R&B voice, with impressive vocal runs in the truly exquisite chorus. Her voice is also mutually reinforcing with the dramatic and powerful production that truly captivates the listener.
I want you on my skin like a perfume
What also strikes us about the song is that it has a dimension of female empowerment. The lyrics in the chorus make it clear that the singer knows her worth. She’s not afraid to make demands about how she deserves to be treated. This, combined with the fact that the song certainly plays on sexuality, helps break the much too old fashioned stereotype that women cannot be empowered while owning their sexuality.
With all these factors combined, it is safe to say that ‘Perfume‘ is yet another release from this talented artist deserving of crossing out of Norway’s musical boundaries and into international playlists.
Saima’s Perfume is pure R&B pleasure with a message.
