Sometimes a track just doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Maybe it’s timing. Maybe it’s an addictive social feed. Whatever the reason, we’re circling back to My Man, My Man by Silje Nergaard and Beady Belle, because this is one we don’t want you to miss.
Yes, it’s already in our Scandinavian Soul playlist 2025-16 where we keep our soulful radar tuned to pick up treasures like this from across the Scandic North. But if you’ve somehow missed the past playlist (we forgive you), consider this track as your gentle reminder.
Because My Man, My Man has all the vibes of a Sunday morning. The real kind. Not the Instagram-perfect ones with avocado toast, but the quiet ones. The ones with soft light through the curtains, your phone charging in another room, and coffee aroma in the air.
This track captures that. Laid-back. Warm. Effortlessly soulful.
There’s a beautifully catchy repetition in the chorus — “Hes’s my man, he’s my man” — and it gave me the same feeling I used to get back when I hosted my soul radio show. Early morning. Few cars on the road. Just me, the mic, and a cup of coffee sharing tracks I genuinely loved. This would have been one of the first songs I played – no question.
And can I just say — I know this is a personal quirk — but I love it when songs have artists talking.
My Man, My Man has it. That little spoken exchange at the end between the two singers – mainly heard in the ’70s. Gold. It’s playful, it’s intimate, and it brings to mind Brandy and Monica’s The Boy Is Mine — but without the drama. My man, is gentle. It’s a side-eye shade instead.
Let’s not forget who’s behind this track.
Silje Nergaard is an award-winning Norwegian singer-songwriter who first made waves with her chart-topping album At First Light back in 2001. Her voice carries that smoothness and clarity that turns heads and ears.
She’s joined here by one of our all-time favourites — Beady Belle. If you were lucky enough to attend the first (and sadly only so far) Scandinavian Soul Music Festival, you’ll remember them. Beady Belle (vocals Beate S. Lech) isn’t a solo artist — it’s an Oslo-formed band (est. 1999) crafting jazz, acid jazz, and mellow electronic soul grooves with a seriously classy touch. Their back catalogue is a quiet treasure chest.
My Man, My Man — complete with its vintage artwork and soft groove — is the kind of song that makes you wish for just five more minutes in bed. Or ten. Maybe an hour!
So yeah, we’re reversed back to this for a reason… and now I’m going back to bed.
My Man, My Man is taken from Silje Nergaard’s new album Tomorrow We’ll figure out The Rest.
