Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden comes this talented songstress blessing the Scandinavian Soul scene with a classic vibe reminiscent of artists such as Nikka Costa and Teena Marie. Live instrumentation meets dynamic singing with highly personal lyrics that everyone still will be able to relate to, Songs in the key of strife.
The hardships struggles of relationships are being covered but there is also a joyous vibe lyrically that blends in perfectly with this groove-heavy project. The opener and title track “I’ve Come 2 Play” embodies the full-on vibe that the album displays, strong vocal lines, hard staccato drum patterns and structured arrangements.
The flow is oh-so consistent and steady, dirty horns blaring, organs crying and controlled backing vocalists. “Wanna Go Back” which is the new single gives a 60’s Northern Soul / Mod soul taste in my mouth that I absolutely love, high-pitched strings deep percussions work well with Teresa’s powerful voice. Favourite tracks on this record are despite this the ballads: “Loved By You“, “Fallen” the teary-eyed “When You Love Someone” but especially the 6/8 moaner “Why” with its lazy bassline, doo-wop choirs and breakdown with a guitar solo and amazing crescendo.
