Once again, Danish artist The Colour demonstrates that soul music ebbs from his heart with a soul record to remember.
Pink Champagne and Tide, his previous singles, have already showcased his deft songwriting and authentic retro sound. His latest release, an ode to a dreamer of love written by Adam Blinkenberg Koch (The Colour), is another gem in his collection.
Sweet Illusions radiates with a late ’70 – early ’80s soul arrangement, enriched by soft electronic synths and his warm soulful melodies. The chorus is pure poetry.
It might be Sweet illusion
but I am fine if things are not what they seem
It might be Sweet delusion,
But I don’t mind, let me stay in my dream
The song has a lot of similarities to classic 2-steppers, and in light of Bobby Caldwell’s tragic passing, it immediately brings to mind one of his classics – What You Won’t Do for Love.
This month’s playlist, Scandinavian Soul – 03-2023, starts with Sweet Illusions and it delivers the ideal opener for those newly introduced to Scandinavian soul music.
Sweet Illusions is a contender for ‘Best track of the year’ and a new ‘soul from Scandinavia classic’.
