Amalie Bryde is back with a new song, ‘Stranger Inside‘, and it’s another gem in her glittering catalogue of releases we highly recommend.
Stranger Inside follows her recent single, Love Again, and is beautifully composed and soulful. It again shows her high level of artistry that has enamoured us with the Danish, London-based artist.
During the first verse, the listener might think it is about a disappointing relationship, betrayal and being left alone. However, as the song moves forward, we understand that the singer conveys a conversation between different parts of herself. It is about a sometimes disappointing relationship, but the relationship is with herself and not someone else. Amalie sings in an emotional and naked way about feeling let down by herself, the will to keep loving herself but losing her way, and the intention to change her self perception.
As if the quality of the song wasn’t enough, the video is just as striking.
The song is fairly laid back but has a lot of details holding the listener’s undivided attention throughout. The wonderful guitar that seems thought-provoking in itself is one example. In fact, due to its well-produced composition, by Amalie, Stranger Inside would make a compelling instrumental track on its own. The singer’s airy and beautifully tentative vocals, which perfectly reflect the insecurity and sense of being astray conveyed through the lyrics, are another captivating factor. Amalies’ vocal runs are distinctive and impressive but still don’t take over the whole track.
As if the quality of the song wasn’t enough, the video is just as striking. It’s beautifully made, simple but capturing, arty and creative, adding to the music without distracting. Amalie is translucent in front of a beige background, filmed from the waist up. The video’s meaning is very much in the eye of the beholder. What you see and how you interpret it is open and might vary from person to person, just like the journey to improve the relationship with oneself.
