Unrelated to the film or the current Covid personal protection requirements, ‘The Mask‘ by Baun is a bonafide injection of positivity through a jazzy and soulful arrangement.
We’ve been secret admirers of this Danish artist, who joins the diverse and eclectic roster at Wontune, for a while. Here he delivers and exceeds our expectations.
Recorded live, The Mask plays with a warming, rhythmic arrangement highlighted by Bauns’ soulful vocal, which moves effortlessly around sparkling piano chords. Musically Baun draws a parallel with the catchy musicality of Swedish artist Andy Pfeiler.
The chorus ‘it’s time to drop the mask‘ ask that we should dare to be ourselves and drop the facades!
For BAUN, the song is a personal rebellion against his pretence, which is critically relevant in the age of social media. We can easily hide behind beautifying filters and flee from who we are in reality.
“In this digital age, I believe that many are starving for more humanity and less digitalization”, – Baun says about his musical approach.
More artists are starting to consider the side-effects of social media, and through their prisms, we can contemplate how it’s affecting us.
This single raises the awareness of internet addiction and undoubtedly to the artist named Baun.
The Mask is the first of several songs planned for release over summer 2021. Stay tuned!
