The lead voice of Norway’s Grammy-nominated band Fieh, Sofie Tollefsbøl, explores the fusion of soul and pop with her new moniker and track – Purplebook.
While Fieh leaned heavily on ’70s rhythms, MIDISOFI instead seeks alternative inspiration, while retaining her distinguished soulful melodies.
Homebound by the pandemic in Eina, Norway, Sofie Tollefsbøl found two ways of escaping the four walls. First, by the liberation of world-building games like Skyrim and slightly more brutal Grand Theft Auto. And secondly, by making music. Inspired by an eclectic group of her favourite producers and artists such N.E.R.D., Pharrell, Outkast, Frank Ocean, Gorillaz, Björk and Kate Bush – she buried herself in the project, crafting and self-producing a new, unique sound.
Like a river, the artistic drama of Kate Bush winds brightest through Purplebook.
Twisted, yet organic and flowing in style MIDISOFI allows 5+mins for Purplebook to paint a colourful, contemporary soul/pop soundscape. Pushing beyond expectations MIDISOFI opens a realm of marvellous listening intrigue whilst retaining a harmonious structure through variations in vocal style and stumbling drum beats.
This is something else. A re-birth of someone extra special.
And the future has just been written in MIDISOFI’s Purplebook.
