Norwegian creative collective GiddyGang and South African/Norwegian rapper, Vuyo have released a new, smooth soul-hop single/video – Told Me.
For those familiar with the groundbreaking sound of Fieh, Midisofi, or White Ascot, then the Oslo-based band GiddyGang will delight with equal effortless ease. We’ve had our eyes on this genre-bending six-piece ensemble as they emerge as one of Scandinavia’s most exciting underground collectives, playfully blending jazz, R&B and hip-hop.
‘Told Me’ is a love story written by the band’s lead singer, Sarah Nærø Pettersen, for the band’s producer and drummer, Sigmund Vestrheim (the couple are engaged). The romantic vibe soaks in like a rich moisturiser. Reflecting the track’s dreamy soundscape, the video is shot in laid-back DIY style and follows the band and Vuyo for a day.
Talking about the track Sarah said: “Told Me’ was one of the first songs from the EP that I wrote. I had a hard time focusing and writing and started reflecting on my and Sigmund’s relationship and how he just stays around, always acting super calm and patient no matter what we (or I) go through. It’s a little love song dedicated to my best friend and the journey from first getting to know each other to where we are today.”

Equally distinctive and appealing is the inclusion of South-African/Norwegian MC Vuyo. His languid delivery and tone has the character-rich impact of rappers such a Snoop Dogg, Q-tip or Mos Def. Describing his rhyme, Vuyo explained how he took a different approach to this track.
“I wanted to take an unconventional approach to a love song. I wrote it like I was a start-up, and I wanted my crush to buy into my elevator pitch.”
